Pink And Spikes Allover!

May 20, 2013

Hola Fashionistos/as! As the end of spring quarter nears and summer takes over, I wanted to make my last article a special one. If there’s one thing you should know about me by now, it’s that I adore quirky and unique fashion. It’s no fun to color inside the lines and that’s why this week’s Fashionisto was a no brainer.

Pink isn’t just for the girls and hasn’t been for sometime now. This feminine color is popping up throughout men’s street style more and more lately. The perfect combination of pink will have you strutting down the street with the utmost confidence in no time. What you wear can say a lot about you and in this case, the meaning of the color pink is unconditional love and nurturing. It’s the perfect color to wear to such events as weddings, Valentine’s day, Mother’s day or whenever you’re feeling daring enough to rock it.

Start by filling your wardrobe with Ralph Lauren’s classic custom-fit linen sport shirt. This is  an all American piece that you’ll be sure to wear time and time again. The perfect combination for this lovely shirt is a dark denim jean. The Levi’s 511 Radio 5 Jean is the perfect choice for you. This jean will provide you with the perfect amount of versatility and can be paired with just about anything.

Hint: Accessories, accessories and more accessories! That’s what you need to make this a statement outfit. The allover studded loafer from ALDO will have your friends reminiscing for days, get them here. Lastly, to top off your look, you’ll need a pink studded belt to match your shirt and shoes. Tilly’s has the perfect one for you here. Remember, it’s not what you wear Fashionisto’s but how you wear it, so get out there and rock the color pink!

A Blast From The Past

May 7, 2013

Greetings Fashionistos/as! I hope everyone is forging ahead and gearing up for finals. The streets of Savannah are filling up with laidback fashion lovers as tourist season arrives. I love sitting in Forsyth park watching all of the different styles pass me by. This week’s Fashionisto is a blast from the past. I couldn’t help but feel as if I was being sucked back into the Boy George era.

This Fashionisto’s look is fun and easy going, perfect for those summer days when listening to great music is your only plan for the day. When craving a vintage look, ASOS is the way to go. You’ll need this Jack & Jones hat to start this outfit off right. One of my favorite things when it comes to wearing vintage styled clothing is the endless selections available to you. Sometimes you can revive an old piece of clothing to fit just what you are looking for. Or if you’re having a hard time reviving a piece to suit your taste, this ’80s inspired button-down will do the trick too.

Skinny jeans for men is a growing trend and if you look back to the ’80s, boys’ jeans were getting tighter and tighter as the time passed. Fashion a cycle, after all, and that’s why this look will have you singing the lyrics to “Karma Chameleon” in no time. For that perfect ’80s vibe, check out the ASOS skinny black jeans here. To complete this look, slip on a pair of black leather boots.

Hint: When looking to the past for inspiration, remember that fashion is always building off of past styles. Add a little spice to the ’80s, not that it needs much more, and pair a vintage hat with a black top, pants and boots. To add a little something extra to the outfit, jewelry is the way to go. Clip this collar pin onto your shirt and the ’80s will be calling you home in no time.

Geek Chic To Beat The Heat

April 23, 2013

Greetings Fashionistos/as! Here in Savannah the weather has turned into a muggy and sticky mess. I think we skipped right over spring and jumped head first into summer. After all the complaining about cold weather, the famous Georgia heat has arrived. Well Fashionistos, this week I’m going to teach you how to, like we use to say in the Army, “Beat the heat.”

Fashion might not be your forte, but a little effort can go a long way. Winter is officially over and now it’s time to pull out the Justin Bieber surfer hairdo. Boys from all over are sporting this easy and maintainable cut. But first and foremost Fashionistos, keep it clean. Long and shabby can be the utmost sexy when kept squeaky-clean. This Fashionisto knows exactly what I’m talking about and he caught my attention with the flip of his hairdo.

I know your energy is probably winding down as midterms intensely approach and your wardrobe might be right there with it. But with a few simple tricks, your style will be back on track in no time. For those days when hitting the snooze button is just too tempting, lift your spirits with your best tropical graphic T-shirt and a pair of American Apparel jeans. Combine these pieces with a comfy zip-up hoodie and your look is on its way to geek chic. Pair this effortless outfit with a pair of Converse All-Stars.
Whether you realize it or not fellas, girls love boys who wear glasses. So toss out those bifocals and try a pair of black frames from Tom Ford. Don’t be reluctant to show off those baby blues, we want to see them! And lastly, for you Fashionistos out there who are lugging around pounds and pounds of books, slip them into a sleek messenger bag by Marc by Marc Jacobs.
Hint: Remember fellas, just because you’re feeling lackluster this week, doesn’t mean your style has to reflect it. Try wearing a bright tropical T-shirt and a pair of casual jeans to beat the heat and you will have successfully achieved this week’s geek chic look.

He Was A Skater Boy!

April 9, 2013

If you’re one of the many wishing for warm weather don’t fret, because here in Savannah the weather is dreadful. Spring break is over and school has become the usual monotonous routine. Nights are filled with studying to the max and mornings consist of irritating alarm clocks that break our peaceful dreams. Another school quarter, another day and another homework assignment, all of which might have you feeling out of sorts this week. My suggestion: dress like who you want to be. Sometimes it’s fun to dress yourself into a different role, and it helps break up the monotony.

We all remember the overplayed but very catchy song “Sk8er Boi,” by Avril Lavigne, and this week’s Fashionisto had Sk8er Boi written all over him. I spotted him in my early morning art history class; he was the perfect burst of energy to get this week’s column going. His look is fresh with a taste of urban and that’s why I headed over to Urban Outfitters to find you just right the pieces. This gingham shirt is the foolproof way to get this look, and it’s on sale! Pair it with a comfy cardigan like this one here. The skater boy look no longer consists of baggy low-rise jeans; nowadays skaters wear a form-fitting jean like the Levi’s 511 Jean.

Looking for the perfect shoe to perform all of your skater tricks in? The Chuck Taylor Washed Canvas edition will provide you with the comfort and confidence needed to hit your feet every time. They come looking faded and worn, so don’t get caught up in looking too polished. This look is meant to look urban. Finally, no skater would be complete without a beanie. I’m digging this multi-colored one here.

Hint: Dress yourself into a different identity. The great thing about fashion is that we can dress in all sorts of styles one day and completely change it the next. Think outside the box this week and dress like a skater boy. To accomplish this, pair a plaid gingham shirt underneath a comfy cardigan. Put on a pair of dark wash jeans underneath, slip on some Chuck Taylor’s and cover your noggin with a beanie and you’ll have yourself singing the lyrics to “Sk8er Boi” in no time.

Casually Hot Or Cold

March 19, 2013

Hola Fashionistas/os! As far as the weather is concerned, Savannah can’t seem to make up its mind lately. Chilly days are mixed in with just as many warm days and your wardrobe is definitely the one paying for it. You spend your mornings looking through your closet for the perfect short only to realize that it’s freezing outside. Don’t let the sun trick you this week. Here’s an easy outfit alternative to work in any weather situation, hot or cold.

After all the hype of spring break, here we are sitting in what still seems like winter weather. Magazines are filled with articles on “what to wear for spring” but it seems as if spring is long out of sight. For an easy outfit that will keep you warm in the morning but cool during the day, the key is to dress in layers. The more you put on, the more you can take off as the temperatures rise during the day. This week’s Fashionisto has figured out the element to fighting the inclimate weather.

With a blue infinity scarf wrapped around his neck, he definitely isn’t feeling the cold in the morning. Urban Outfitters has the perfect cable knit scarf here. This will be an item you can keep in your wardrobe for years to come. Layer a casual T-shirt under your scarf and to add some energy to your ensemble, pick a colorful matching pant. To top things off, you’ll need a warm jacket — try the Tony Jacket by Andrew Marc.

Hint: Don’t let the weather play tricks on you this week! Beat the morning cold by dressing in layers. Pair a warm jacket with an infinity scarf and kiss the cold goodbye. Embrace the daytime warmth by taking off layers and wearing an energetic pant with a cool and casual T-shirt. The combination of layers will allow you to beat the weather and enjoy your spring break without any complications.

LET'S HEAR IT FOR THE BOYS: Digital Prints To Spice Up Your Life!

February 19, 2013

Sometimes it’s hard to step out of the monotony of your wardrobe. It’s that time in the quarter when grabbing an outfit that you know will work every time seems like the safest route, but why not try mixing it up and adding a little spice to your life? Step outside of the safe zone and bring your outfit to life with fun digital prints. New York Fashion Week is in full swing and the runway is flooded with digital prints. Check out Katie Eary, a London based menswear designer who really knows how to bring her looks to
life through prints.

It was a dreary, wet and rainy day in the SAV. The week was coming to an end and I could finally kiss my midterms goodbye. The stress of the week had been wearing me down and sleep was just the remedy I needed to bring me back to my perky self. The completion of my last class of the week felt like a weight being lifted off my shoulders and just when I was about to call it a day, I spotted a ray of sunshine strutting down the street. This bone crushing Fashionisto was just what the doctor ordered.

Shopping for digital prints isn’t as hard as you might think. This trend is really starting to take form and become more available. Look to Your Eyes Lie for some striking T-shirts at a very fashion forward price. Leggings for men, or “meggings” if you prefer, are another big trend we are going to start seeing more often, and would look great with a digital print. They are a quick and comfortable go-to item that you can have fun with – I love these leggings from ASOS.

Hint: Spice up your life through digital prints. Step away from your regular go-to items and try something new. Whether you decide to wear prints on the top, bottom or even both, remember that you will be making a fashion statement. Try pairing a digital print legging with a cool toned sweater like this week’s Fashionisto. Add a pop of color to your shoe to complete your look and let your outside shine.
